To meet customer demand, the number of ATMs installed by banks has also grown continuously. Since 2002, when Vietcombank installed the first ATM in Vietnam, by the end of 2020, the number of ATMs has reached more than 19,000 (according to statistics of the State Bank). The efforts of the State Bank as well as commercial banks have made ATM transactions convenient and popular. The first line of research and development of a new service: “Physical card withdrawal” by applying QR technology with a mobile banking application. From June 2020, Vietcombank has launched QR cash withdrawal service at ATM, applicable to Vietcombank Connect24 domestic debit cardholders. Accordingly, Vietcombank Connect24 domestic debit cardholders can open the VCB-Digibank application on their phone and scan the QR code displayed at the ATM screen to withdraw money quickly without having to carry a physical card. This service brings convenience to customers, helping to avoid inconveniences when using a physical card to withdraw cash in case customers lose their card, forget to bring the card, the card is broken or ATM swallowed the card.
